Tom Hanks is alerting his social media followers to be cautious about advertisements featuring his image that were created fraudulently using AI.
On Instagram, Hanks revealed that various ads online are misusing his name, image, and voice to promote false cures and wonder drugs without his consent. He emphasized that he has no association with these ads, products, or the advocates promoting them.
Hanks, who has been open about managing type 2 diabetes, clarified that he only collaborates with his board-certified doctor regarding his treatment. He advised his followers not to be deceived or lose their money to these fraudulent claims.
Hanks joins a list of celebrities, including Drake, The Weeknd, and Taylor Swift, who have had their likenesses exploited in AI-generated content. In response to these issues, several state and federal legislators are advocating for stronger protections against the misuse of personal identities in the digital age. Recently, Tennessee enacted the ELVIS Act (Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security Act) to safeguard against unauthorized use of individuals’ images or voices.
