Students are Studying AI to Enhance Their Competitive Advantage.

Dr. Ben Siu emphasized that AI serves as a tool to enhance students’ creativity.

Students at the University of Plymouth believe that understanding generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) will provide them with a competitive advantage in their careers.

Business and Marketing students received training on leveraging AI tools to streamline specific tasks.

The AI software enabled users to input prompts, ask questions, and generate text, images, audio, and video using online data.

They also learned techniques for creating podcasts and social media content by applying the appropriate prompts for desired outputs.

Students at the University of Plymouth described the classes as a supportive environment for developing AI skills.

Dr. Ben Siu, a lecturer, stated that AI could give students an advantage as they enter the workforce.

“AI accelerates work processes, challenges perspectives, and enhances efficiency,” he explained.

He noted that starting a business traditionally required multiple hires, but AI could now handle some of those roles.

Students were encouraged to view AI as a tool rather than a dependency, using it to enhance creativity.

“By automating routine tasks, people can focus more on the creative aspects they enjoy,” he added.

‘New and shocking’

Student Hannah Kelk felt the lessons would provide her with a competitive advantage.

“I used to dislike AI,” she admitted.

“I initially feared it would reduce job opportunities, but my hesitation came from a lack of understanding.”

Another student, Katie Lee, shared: “I’m grateful to be learning AI now because professionals are still adapting to it as something new and unexpected.

At university, we have the chance to familiarize ourselves with it in a supportive learning environment.”
