A legal firm that represented Rudy Giuliani throughout various investigations and lawsuits is taking legal action against him for more than $1.3 million in unpaid legal fees. Giuliani, the former Mayor of New York City, is currently facing mounting expenses related to his activities during the 2020 presidential election on behalf of Donald Trump.
Davidoff Hutcher & Citron, the law firm in question, alleges that Giuliani has only paid $214,000 of his total legal bill, leaving him owing them $1,360,196. This outstanding amount covers legal work performed by the firm’s attorneys on several matters, including a now-closed federal criminal investigation into foreign lobbying, investigations related to the events of January 6, 2021, conducted by Georgia state prosecutors, the House of Representatives, and the federal special counsel’s office, as well as various lawsuits and attorney discipline probes that emerged following the 2020 election. Giuliani’s most recent payment to the firm, amounting to $10,000, was made just four days ago, according to the court filing.
Davidoff Hutcher & Citron served as Giuliani’s legal representation from late 2019 until July of the current year, as stated in the filing.
In response to the lawsuit, Giuliani, through his spokesman Ted Goodman, expressed personal dismay, stating, “I can’t express how personally hurt I am by what Bob Costello has done. It’s a real shame when lawyers do things like this, and all I will say is that their bill is way in excess of anything approaching legitimate fees.”
Notably, Robert Costello, a partner at Davidoff Hutcher and a long-time associate of Giuliani, has been publicly linked to Giuliani’s defense strategy for some time. Costello also previously represented Steve Bannon.
Giuliani has openly stated in court that he is facing financial difficulties in covering his growing legal expenses, which include adverse court rulings, with the prospect of more legal costs accruing in the future.
