This move has had a significant impact on the cryptocurrency world, causing the value of a memecoin (a digital currency based on internet memes) with the same name to surge. While Musk has previously influenced crypto prices through his social media posts, it remains unclear whether he has any direct involvement with this particular memecoin.

The name “Kekius” seems to be a Latinized version of “kek,” a term initially popularized by gamers to mean “laugh out loud,” but now often linked to the alt-right. “Kek” also refers to the ancient Egyptian god of darkness, sometimes depicted with a frog’s head. The name “Maximus” likely references the Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius, portrayed by Russell Crowe in the film Gladiator.
