A business expert emphasized that equipping people in Devon with AI skills is vital for the region’s future development.

Ronnie Carter, representing the Devon & Somerset Local Skills Improvement Plan, noted that AI is “already transforming industries.”

He highlighted the importance of preparing the local workforce to effectively use AI, calling it a key factor for future progress.

Carter made these remarks during the Lifein AI exhibition in Devonport, Plymouth — a one-day event connecting businesses, educators, and industry leaders.

Organisers of Lifein AI described the event as an opportunity to witness the future up close, with everything from caregiving robots to dancing robot dogs on display.

Christina Wilkins, founder of Brand Biscuit Studio, stressed the importance of driving innovation and development in south-west England.

She said uniting businesses, educators, and the public helps build stronger awareness of AI and its powerful role in shaping the future.

According to an Accenture study, 97% of businesses see AI adoption as urgent, but only 15% feel adequately prepared for it.

Co-organiser Matt Fleming added that AI is becoming increasingly vital, not just for improving business operations, but also for transforming daily life.
